Oral Pathology
Oral pathology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases, including oral cancer. Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon provides diagnosis and treatment of oral conditions at our Etobicoke clinic.
The Importance of Oral Screenings
When patients have a growth or condition of the mouth, it's essential to determine the cause. Symptoms such as lesions can be indicative of more serious problems down the road. Our oral surgeon can help examine and diagnose oral conditions - both malignant and benign.
Early detection is essential in successfully treating oral disease. Regular screenings can help spot any abnormalities or changes before symptoms appear.
Symptoms of Oral Abnormalities
The inside of the mouth is lined with a special type of skin (mucosa) that is smooth and pink. Any of the following changes in the appearance of this tissue could be a warning sign for a pathological process.
- Reddish or white patches
- A lump or thickening inside of the mouth
- A sore that does not heal and bleeds easily
- A longstanding sore throat or hoarseness
These changes can be detected on the lips, palate, cheeks and gum tissue around the teeth, tongue, facial skin and/or neck. Pain may or may not be present.
At-Home Prevention
We recommend performing an oral self-examination monthly. Do not ignore new or suspicious lumps, bumps, blisters or sores.
Be sure to schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Ebrahimi as soon as possible if you notice any changes or growths whatsoever in your mouth, face or neck.
He will perform a thorough examination and render treatment if needed.
